Buhari commisions 5billion naria to support victims of boko haram

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the release of 5 billion naira to support victims of Boko Haram bomb attacks. The Head of Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, will be facilitating the release of the funds which were pledged by the Federal Government in August 2014 as part of the Victim Support Fund (VSF).
President Buhari’s directive was given after a briefing with the the VSF Presidential Committee headed by former Defence Minister, Theophilus Danjuma. Danjuma told the President that 33.54 billion of 55.93 billion naira raised for the victims has yet to be accounted for.
5 billion of the outstanding VSF funds was a commitment from the Federal Government. The rest was raised during a fundraising dinner in August. Danjuma said the VSF currently has N23.33 billion in four separate bank accounts.
Danjuma implored the President to persuade all organizations that made pledges to the fund to follow through with their commitments.
Danjuma told President Buhari that former President Jonathan approved the funds to be incorporated into a Trust Fund, in order to “insulate it from political interference.”
He said that despite the challenge of having the necessary tools and weapons to confront Boko Haram, the Nigerian military has recently gained signficant ground in the war against Boko Haram.
Mr. Danjuma added that the full deployment of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), under the auspices of member-states of Lake Chad Basin Commission, will further contribute to war against Boko Haram, who have killed hundreds of people since the beginning of the Buhari’s administration.

Firefox beef Microsoft for making it hard to use mozilla on windows 10

If you're one of the millions of people who've already
upgraded to Windows 10, you've probably noticed that the OS changed your default apps. Your main browser, for instance, suddenly became Microsoft Edge after the upgrade -- something Mozilla finds "disturbing," especially since the platform actually made it trickier to switch back to Chrome, Firefox or any other browser. In an open letter to Microsoft head honcho Satya Nadella, Mozilla's CEO Chris Beard revealed that the non-profit got in touch with the Windows 10 team when it got wind of the change, but that "didn't result in any meaningful progress."
Beard wrote (emphasis ours):
...the update experience appears to have been designed to throw away the choice your customers have made about the Internet experience they want, and replace it with the Internet experience Microsoft wants them to have.
We appreciate that it's still technically possible to preserve people's previous settings and defaults, but the design of the whole upgrade experience and the default settings APIs have been changed to make this less obvious and more difficult. It now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert the choices they had previously made in earlier versions of Windows. It's confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost.
Now, in order to switch your default browser, you'll need to tick the check box asking if you want to make Firefox or Chrome your default the first time you launch either. Then, you'll have to find "Web browser" in the Settings page that pops up and click the Edge icon to find alternatives in the drop-down menu. The video below can show you those steps more clearly:
Microsoft, however, stands by its decision and told The Verge that it will only change features and aspects of
Windows 10 that users don't like:
We designed Windows 10 to provide a simple upgrade experience for users and a cohesive experience following the upgrade. During the upgrade, consumers have the choice to set defaults, including for web browsing. Following the upgrade, they can easily choose the default browser of their choice. As with all aspects of the product, we have designed Windows 10 as a service; if we learn from user experience that there are ways to make improvements, we will do so.

The first hand transplant ever.

An eight-year-old American has become the world’s youngest recipient of a transplant of both hands, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia announced on Tuesday.
Surgeons operated for 10 hours to carry out the incredibly complicated surgery on Baltimore native Zion Harvey.
He previously had both his hands and feet amputated and had a kidney transplant following a major infection.
The smiling, precocious youngster had learned to eat, write and even play video games without hands.
Now he says he is looking forward to being able to throw a football with his own hands.
It took a team of 40 doctors, nurses and other staff from plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology and radiology, to pull off the pioneering surgery.
Surgeons first painstakingly attached bone, then veins. Once the blood was circulating, surgeons connected tendons, muscles and nerves.
“Zion’s kidney transplant following his infection made him a candidate for transplant because he was already taking anti-rejection medication,” said Benjamin Chang, co-director of CHOP’s Hand Transplantation Programme.
Harvey is receiving daily anti-rejection medications. Doctors said he should be able to return home to Baltimore in a few weeks.
“This surgery was the result of years of training, followed by months of planning and preparation by a remarkable team,” said L Scott Levin.
“The success of Penn’s first bilateral hand transplant on an adult, performed in 2011, gave us a foundation to adapt the intricate techniques and coordinated plans required to perform this type of complex procedure on a child.”
The first bilateral hand and forearm transplant surgery was done in January 2000 in Lyon, France.

Africa to face large meningitis outbreak next year

WHO says Africa is at risk of a large meningitis outbreak next year in the 25 countries that constitute Africa’s meningitis belt.
The U.N. agency is calling for vaccine manufacturers to step up production by 5 million doses before the 2016 meningitis season starts in January.
Unfortunately, this appeal appears to be falling on deaf ears, according to William Perea, an epidemiological officer with WHO.
Production and price
“The vaccine manufacturers are not willing to ramp up the vaccine production to make this 5 million available to WHO to respond eventually to epidemics in the next season," he said. "If we do not manage to put together this 5 million stockpile, we will be not well armed to respond to the epidemics that may hit Africa next year.”
Another problem is price. Meningitis C vaccine can cost between $30 and $50 a dose, much higher than meningitis A vaccine, which costs about 60 cents a dose.
Meningitis is a bacterial infection that can cause severe brain damage. It is fatal in 50 percent of cases if left untreated. The introduction of a vaccine against meningitis A in 2010 has successfully protected millions of people in Africa from getting this disease and prevented its spread.
Meningitis C has not been seen in Africa since the 1970s; however, cases of the disease have been rising since it re-emerged in Nigeria in 2013 and 2014, and in Niger this year. WHO reports 12,000 cases of meningitis C and 800 deaths in Niger and Nigeria in the first six months of this year.
GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi Pasteur are the two leading manufacturers of the meningitis C vaccine. WHO’s Perea tells VOA the manufacturers say they do not have the capacity to increase production.
“Whether that is true or not is, for us in any case, is difficult to prove; but, what we know is... producing this vaccine is not a major issue," he said. "The production can be very quickly ramped up. If there is a true willingness to scale up production, I am pretty sure the manufacturers can do that.”
The World Health Organization plans to convene an expert meeting in October in Geneva to try to understand why meningitis C is reappearing in Africa after an absence of nearly 40 years. It says many questions have to be answered for health officials to be able to control this disease.

US Sends PMB list of oil thieves in Nigeria

A breaking report contains that President Muhammadu Buhari was given the specific names of oil thieves in the course of his recent visit to the US.
A member of Buhari’s entourage was said to have disclosed this information on Tuesday, July 28, to The Punch. The source added that when the Nigerian leader saw the list provided by the US, he could not believe his eyes.
“I can tell you that the President already has the list of names of the people engaging in the stealing of Nigeria’s oil. The list, when released by the president, will shock Nigerians. But let’s wait and see first.”
Another source from the presidency confirmed the information noting, however, that Buhari “has been keeping the list to himself”.
It was also obtained that there was one list with the names of high-rank Nigerian officials involved in corruption schemes  and the other list with the names of illegal bunkerers. Apart from the government officials, the “oil list” allegedly contains the names of the retired and serving military chiefs.
Based on the report referring to the source disclosures, some ministers were stealing up to 250,000 barrels of Nigeria’s crude daily.
The person from Buhari’s team said Nigeria’s number 1 politician was already considering the idea of setting up a panel to try the guilty officials.
“The president will probe all of them and make sure they return whatever fortune they had made from their thievery.”
It should be recalled that Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole claimed that one of Goodluck Jonathan’s ministers had stolen $6billion . The information was reportedly provided by the American side in the course of Buhari’s visit. This caused serious argument among Nigerians . Many came down on Oshiomhole saying that he is one of those with itchy fingers. The others, outraged by the revelation, urged the acting government to immediately find and prosecute the minister accused of massive stealing.
In a recent development the All Progressives Congress disclosed the official position of the party regarding corrupt officials of the immediate past administration:
“Some people have insinuated that the Buhari administration should ignore the massive looting of our patrimony and move on. We say no responsible government can afford to do that, because it will amount to endorsing corruption and impunity.”
President Buhari on several occasions reiterated his commitment to fighting public funds embezzlement. This was also the case in the US where the Nigerian leader has recently met with his American counterpart Barack Obama.

Users having issues install windows 10

Microsoft Corporation marked July 29 as the date it starts to roll out its most awaited Windows OS, the Windows 10. Users with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 acquired via official channels or actually purchased it are eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 10.

Most users have already started downloading and installing Windows 10 on their PC’s and laptops and comments are pouring in of the early views. The installation file size for Windows 10 is somewhere north of 3 gigs and up to 6.5 gigs.

A few excited early users who reached the installation process claim the Windows 10 is reporting some sort of error and have lodged complaints
The “Something Happened” screen is actually the error and there is no way forward. The error dialog box contains no error code that could help describe the error and users have stated that Microsoft Support line is not of much help either.
The issue dates back to Windows 10 Technical Preview, where users complained on the Microsoft Community in search of answers. Some expert answer claims that it could be because users were trying to upgrade over Windows 7 or 8 instead of installing it in a separate partition.
The current issue of “Something Happened” is the same but users upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 are now confused as to why Microsoft has been unable to fix it. A possible fix is attributed to language settings. Changing the default Windows language settings to en-US resolved the issue for some.
To check the reason for error, users would need to dig into the event logs. To do that; ‘Right Click > Manage on "Computer"> Event Viewer> Windows Logs. Another solution is to ensure that there is ample space in the main partition for Windows to download and install.
